Indonesia’s retail investor base has expanded significantly in recent years, supported by rising digital adoption and broader access to investment products through online platforms.

Among the companies operating at the center of this trend is Stockbit, Indonesia’s leading one-stop stock investment platform backed by ACV Capital, offering seamless trading, market insights, and investment research. Recent reporting by DealStreetAsia highlighted Stockbit’s strong 2025 performance, with revenue increasing approximately 395% year-on-year to IDR 596.5 billion and net profit rising 544% to IDR 243.6 billion.

The performance came during a strong year for Indonesia’s capital markets. The Jakarta Composite Index rose more than 22% in 2025, while average daily transaction value reached a record IDR 27.19 trillion in December, based on data from Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK).

Retail participation also continued to expand across the market. Retail investors accounted for 50% of total market transactions in 2025, up from 38% the previous year, while the number of capital market investors in Indonesia reached 20.36 million by the end of the year.

The growth reflects broader shifts in digital behaviour and financial access across Indonesia. As investment products become increasingly accessible through online platforms, participation in capital markets continues to extend beyond traditional investor segments.

Founded in 2013 as a social investing platform, Stockbit later expanded into a full-service brokerage following the acquisition of a licensed securities firm in 2021, enabling users to trade equities directly through the platform. The group also launched Bibit in 2019, a robo-advisory platform focused on mutual funds and government bonds, creating a complementary ecosystem serving both active traders and first-time investors.

Today, Stockbit operates within an environment where retail participation, digital engagement, and financial accessibility continue to increase simultaneously.

Market conditions, however, became more volatile entering 2026. Concerns surrounding Indonesia’s potential MSCI downgrade and softer trading activity contributed to weaker market sentiment in the first quarter of the year. Average daily transaction value moderated from late-2025 peaks, while foreign investors recorded significant outflows in March.

Even amid softer market conditions, investor participation has remained resilient. The number of capital market investors in Indonesia continued to increase in early 2026, reaching 24.74 million by March, reflecting sustained onboarding despite increased volatility.

This divergence between expanding investor participation and moderating trading activity may become increasingly important for digital investment platforms over time. As the market matures, long-term growth is likely to depend not only on user acquisition, but also on engagement, monetisation, operational efficiency, and the ability to build trusted financial infrastructure at scale.

According to Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) data for March 2026, Stockbit ranked as the top brokerage platform by transaction volume.

Indonesia’s investor penetration remains relatively low compared to the country’s overall population, suggesting continued room for expansion over the long term. As digital adoption and financial literacy continue to improve, platforms that can sustain engagement and broaden access may continue to play an increasingly important role in the development of Indonesia’s capital markets.
