ACV Capital–backed Waste4Change, Indonesia’s pioneer in responsible waste management, has released its 2024 Impact Report, revealing an average annual growth rate of 88.39% in waste collection volumes over the past decade.
Since its founding in 2014, the company has scaled from a small social enterprise to one of Indonesia’s leading circular economy players. Over the past decade, it has collected 64.9 million kilograms of waste, including households (32.5 million kg), commercial areas (17.6 million kg), and community partnerships such as Bank Sampah, TPS 3R, and the informal sector (14.7 million kg). Today, the company operates across 19 locations nationwide.
Its impact goes beyond waste collection. From 2014 to 2024, the company recycled 14.2 million kilograms of materials, converted 499,300 kilograms of organic waste into biomass, and produced 2 million kilograms of refuse-derived fuel (RDF). In 2024 alone, Waste4Change recycled 8.1 million kilograms of materials and produced nearly 700,000 kilograms of RDF.
Beyond its waste management operations, the company has also created hundreds of green jobs, from operators to full-time positions, while educating over 550,000 people on waste management.
By keeping waste out of landfills, the company has cut emissions by the equivalent of 28.8 million kilograms of CO₂ in the past decade, reaching net-negative emissions through its operations.
Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder & CEO of Waste4Change, said, “Our growth is proof that circular solutions can deliver measurable impact at scale. Waste4Change is not just reducing landfill waste — we are transforming waste into resources, creating jobs, and driving systemic change for a sustainable, low-carbon economy.”
The Impact Report was launched alongside a webinar, “Circular Solutions for Emission Reduction: Waste4Change Progress in Circular Solutions”, held in conjunction with Zero Emissions Day and World Clean Up Week. The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, private sector investors, and global partners, highlighting cross-sector collaboration as key to accelerating the transition toward zero waste and zero emissions.
From a policy perspective, Ir. Noer Adi Wardojo, M.Sc., Expert Staff at the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, highlighted the importance of waste segregation, stronger processing capacity, and reinforced Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies to advance Indonesia’s circular economy goals.
Representing the investor, Adiandri Adyafitri, Head of ESG at ACV Capital, emphasized the importance of balancing social impact with profitability, noting that impact investors can play a key role in scaling responsible waste management and driving systemic change.
As the demand for scalable waste management solutions grows worldwide, Waste4Change plans to continue diversifying its collection points, expanding partnerships with the informal sector, and strengthening cross-border collaborations that integrate policy, investment, and innovation. By bridging gaps across stakeholders, the company is positioning itself as a regional leader in scalable circular solutions.
